HUF L.A. Closes...

After closing shop in S.F., the L.A. location is also saying fare well to great people of the city of angels and here why as written by the ollie king himself....
To whom it may concern:
We unexpectedly lost our lease recently at our HUF LA shop on Fairfax, and unfortunately closed its doors this past Sunday. We are all bummed about it, and will miss being on the block and all the good times we had at that shop… But change happens and we will keep cruising on and making great stuff. This upcoming year will mark HUF’s 10-year anniversary as a brand, which we will celebrate with the release of exclusive collaboration projects throughout the year. You can still pick up HUF products at your local HUF dealers, and can always find us right here on our website. We hope to be able to reopen HUF retail shops again in the future, but at this time are not sure when or where… We will keep you posted. As for now, our time and efforts will continue to be entirely devoted to perfecting the brand and its product. We could never have foreseen how rapidly the brand would grow since its beginning, and would like to sincerely thank all of you who have walked through our doors in any of our shops over the last decade. Thanks for the support, and stay tuned!

The 50 Greatest Streetware Brands
I first heard about this and tried to come up with own "50" list but I personally don't even rock 50 different labels so I couldn't fairly put a list together for you, but the highly and very respected Bobby Hundreds (@bobbyhundreds) d has done that for us and to be honest I agree with alot of them.....

1) This is gonna get me into a lot of trouble,
2) but I wouldn’t want anyone else to write this,
3) so, sure.
As Co-Owner of The Hundreds, it’s a catch-22 for me. Anyone I leave off the list is gonna be peeved, and anyone on the list who’s not #1 will be pissed they’re not higher. Anywhere I place our own brand on the list is gonna be scoffed, and I’m gonna look like I’m playing favorites, hating competitors, or riding bias.
Worst of all, streetwear, more than any other industry or scene, is overrun with ego and insecure males, so friends and rivals alike will take issue with this list (and me). It’s gonna be an awkward MAGIC. But I’m okay with that, as long as streetwear is properly upheld.

The first challenge in creating this list is defining streetwear. True traditional streetwear is a genre of contemporary apparel, united between sportswear and military looks, and is one that speaks to a spectrum of subcultures (skateboarding and hip-hop mostly). Vision may have coined the term “streetwear,” but Shawn Stussy was the one who created its modern embodiment. So to all the misled who think streetwear is an urban expression, having to do with the literal streets, you gotta remember streetwear was instituted by a surf company. Stussy took a multi-faceted, subculturally diverse, Southern California lifestyle-based T-shirt brand and mimicked the limited feel of a high-end luxury brand. And those are the two most integral components of what makes a brand streetwear: T-shirts and exclusivity.
Every line on this list, with a few exceptions, has built their brand off T-shirts, not catering specifically to just an urban or skate audience, and initializing their distribution through selective channels. Sales distro and image are what ultimately constitute a brand as streetwear, not the art or design.
The final requirements to being one of the "Greatest of All Time" are influence and longevity. Streetwear is an endurance game. It’s easy to make a hot T-shirt, show up on the back of the newest rapper, blow out in mall doors; but nearly impossible to last for 10 years, let alone 30.

The second challenge to writing this article is personal, and that’s staying unbiased. I promise I’ve done my best to maintain journalistic integrity and objectivity throughout this list. There are close friends of mine that didn’t make the cut, and some brands on here (especially in the higher ranks) whose staff and owners I outright despise.
I hope you can find some value in the list, and remember, just because I said it, doesn’t make it true. And just because you don’t believe it, doesn’t mean it’s not.

Ai Weiwei Finally Free
On Wednesday night, June 22nd at 10:15 pm Beijing time, Xinhua produced a statement that Ai Weiwei had been released on bail because of “his good attitude in confessing crimes as well as a chronic disease he suffers from.” Hours later, Ai had returned to his home-studio compound in northeastern Beijing and responded to a flurry of text messages and phone calls. He has told the Guardian and other media outlets that he is “fine” and happy to be home. The first photos of Weiwei following his release appeared in the New York Times. The conditions of Weiwei’s release have yet to be confirmed, but Weiwei’s legal counsel, Liu Xiaoyuan, did suggest over Twitter that the artist would not be allowed to exit Beijing city limits. Weiwei himself has stated that he will not be allowed to conduct interviews or use social media for at least “one year.” Many have speculated about the timing of Weiwei’s release, which occurred just days before Wen Jiabao’s visit to Hungary, Germany and Britain, countries that have been particularly critical of Weiwei’s extrajudicial detention.

“Casey balances his work life and his school life better than I probably would have at his age,” [senior-year English teacher] Shannon Kirk added of her student, who did independent study while he was on the road. “He’s pretty mature for his age, and he was able to do pretty well. [He] was one of the top students in my class.”
Veggies realized that he could have quit school to pursue his dreams, but he never felt the need to. He knew he could handle it, so why not get school done? As for college, though his mother says he was accepted to four schools, he’s postponing those plans while he sees where his rap career goes.
“At the end of the day, I’m just dreaming right now,” Casey said. “I’m going to stay in my dream and don’t plan on waking up. If I do, maybe I’ll grab a college degree, but right now, I’m in my own world.”

RIP Jonas Bevacqua [LRG Founder]
Jonas Bevacqua, co-founder and creative director of LRG, was found dead in Los Angeles today. I show nothing but respect for what Jonas and his team achieved with the brand and the strong influence through out hip-hop and the streetware world which still go hard to this day. A true visionary, Jonas Bevacqua was 34 years old. Rest in peace.
