The Opposite of Anarchy-

Last nite downtown Santa Cruz was the OPPOSITE of anarchy- it was a
celebration! of LIFE! oddly enough, of POLITICS! of HOPE! of HUMANITY!

Until last nite, it hadbeen a loooong time since i was proud to be an
American. Maybe since i was a Boy Scout. Downtown Santa Cruz, like many,
many other places, was INSANE!!!

People -like Vanessa and i- were just walking around with big SMILES on
their faces, yelling, chanting- "YES WE CAN" or "O.BA.MA" or "U.S.A"... It
was insane, the exact OPPOSITE of anarchy! There were so many people
downtown that cars could not pass. People white, black, old, young, gay,
strait, were dancing in the streets, spinning, giving hi-5's and hugs to
perfect strangers.

It was a moment i've never seen, and will never forget. The words of our
eloquent new President ringing thru my head, "The road ahead will be long.
Our climb will be steep," but i knew, as the goosebumps and tears attested
to me all nite, that the people in USA CAME THRU! They looked THRU their
Bibles, and THRU the reality-bending powers that be, to see that as a force,
as a world-leader, as one of the best places to live, that USA is in dire
straits, and that we need a leader now that will not just say WORDS as part
of an election strategy, but would actually CREATE change.

I FEEL IT NOW, that we have a LEADER in charge or our country and our
future, actually an INTELLIGENT leader, that has the power to MOTIVATE
people-AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT USA NEEDS.

And THEN, that this inspirational leader chosen by the USA citizens happens
to be BLACK, couldn't be more perfect to inspire us all to lose racial
boundaries, and to give extra confidence and pride to a large percentage of
our population that in our country's history, hasbeen kept down. And Obama
said not a WORD about his colour during his speech last nite.

And i awoke today, as the new Energy in our land does attest, feeling
invigorated, HOPEFUL for the future, and after last nite, now feeling PROUD
to be an American.

PARIS - Don't Stop The Movement - Acid Reflex

PARIS - Don't Stop The Movement - Acid Reflex

Buildestroy has a foundation in the creation of art by hand from drawing to painting, murals, sculpture, silkscreening, carving, or building. We find that much of the design world is now dominated by computer generated images that lack the soul and spirit of something done by hand. We aim to create a fusion of hand made and CG art that retains painterly qualities and the detail of fine art while meeting our own high technical production standards and the demands of an increasingly saavy client and viewer.

We find great value in the randomness of type rendered by hand and the imperfections of line made by a dryed out marker. We are not confined to any one technique, style, or concept as we strive to incorporate all aspects of art and film making, vis fx, and animation that are required to tell the story. For us the concept is the cornerstone which will lead the aesthetic and overall design style. We remain immersed in art from operating our own galleries to live painting events.

Through strong ties with film production crews, editors, sound designers, and composers we are able to take projects of all sizes from concept through delivery in any format or medium.

The Grouch ARTSY - 2007 THE SCIENCE:

The PARANOID OR CONSERVATIVE VIEWER may be confused by the ARTSY video's persistent presence and condemn it as an underground cult with extremely subversive intentions. The ARTSY video is none of that. The ARTSY movement can best be explained as an experiment in ARTOLOGY.

This experiment is being conducted through the portals of social ART known as Youtube and Myspace. We also are offering a high res version on Itunes in the coming weeks. So please help support, as fine ART ain't cheap.

With that said here is our ARTSY offering to all of hipsterdom. We salute you from SIlverlake to Williamsburg. Lots of greenscreen fun, we clown in a range of styles of the ARTSYEST nature. Secret History directed, Buildestroy designed and animated, ReelRoots shot and edited, The Grouch rapped. A family affair, looking forward to more.

Her Space Holiday

Out of the Bay Area comes another band (such as Xiu Xiu) that has been making a huge impact on what I have been listening to lately; his name is Marc Bianchi and Her Space Holiday is his brainchild. There have been many bands I have come across locally that just did not have that flare for me to continue to listen to them. But, Her Space Holiday left a great impression on me the first time I heard the album, "Young Machines" which was released back in 2003. I recently was introduced to his music only a few weeks ago, and I must say that he gets played in my daily playlists ever since the first listen of his music. I don't like to put artists on parallels with other artists, so I will just define how Her Space Holiday's sound is like. Her Space Holiday's music can be defined as putting the true dark lyrics of loneliness and coming of age over indie-infused production creating the brainchild of an original sound.

What The F*@# is Hyphy?!

Every corner of the country seems to have its own style of hip hop. The East Coast has its grimy, street hustle, the Midwest became known for its rapid-fire delivery and melody, the South its hustling, dope, flossing, and club scene, and the West Coast made its mark with gangsta rap. But now the West, well, a certain area, is known for another style and sound all its own; HYPHY.

I know a little about the Hyphy movement because I was fortunate enough to work with CA’s own, DJ Vlad on his first documentary release, Ghostride the Whip, which tells the story of the Bay Area’s scene.

I’ve included the following mini-dictionary to at least get you up to speed with some basic words and phrases*.

Get Stupid/Go Dumb - To get hyphy – to be wild or free-spirited, or lose all your inhibitions
Hyphy - Hyper, wild, or crazy
Bay Area – the San Francisco Bay Area including cities such as San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, along with a few other, smaller cities
Ghostriding the Whip - To get out of your car and dance along the driver’s side while the car moves along without you inside
Gouda – money
Ride the Yellow Bus - To take “going dumb” to the third level (i.e. to be very, very wild or free-spirited)
Stunna Shades - Very large sunglasses
Thizz or Thizzin’ - To be on ecstasy
Yaddidamean – Do you know what I mean?

This is the trailer to Ghostride the Whip. Enjoy and get out to the nearest movie store and pick this up.

Enjoy,

Essince

7 Daize

Hailing from the Bay Area comes a female/male duo with the talent and charisma to take them beyond the heights of many Bay Area artists that have come before them. Gyrl Ab'strakt and DJ Cleve have come together bringing the fresh new sound of hip-hop that this generation has been lacking; substance. With their release EP, "Mr. and Ms. Pakman," they take the listener on a auditory vacation that lasts far beyond the seven songs it displays. This group is gearing to drop their debut full-length album soon and will be dropping a weekly exclusive song to add to your iPod to keep you bang your head. With 7 Daize, you can expect to hear something that the game has been missing for a long time, a true essence of clarity. The hip-hop without the preservatives and fillers is what 7 Daize brings to the forefront. When listening to their music, expect only the true sheer elements of hip-hop music. Be expecting to hear a lot more from this group in the near future.
