Comprised of drummer/vocalist Jahmal Tonge and keyboardist/bassist Neil White, The Carps are known for their mash-up of different genres, artfully fusing elements of punk rock, soul, hip hop, and soca. The duo's repertoire includes two releases, The Young & Passionate Days of Carpedia (2007) and Waves & Shambles (2008), and a recent European tour with acclaimed hip hop group the Cool Kids.
The Carps' energetic live show is not to be missed! According to RCRD LBL's Faith-Ann Young,
"The Carps have a rush of rigorous, infectious urgency to their music, led by brash electro beats and raw punk guitar and rhythm cycles. Singer Jahmal Tonge's R & B-esque vocals fluctuate from wails, punk screams to speak-rap rants. In "All the Damn Kids", he channels Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, screeching "RAISE YOUR FLAG" on repeat. No matter what country, what flag- he and Neil White are quite convincing at getting us to partake in their battle cry, especially if it's on a dancefloor."
